Teaching staff fifth on Covid testing priority list
EB News: 22/09/2020 - 07:43
The Department for Health and Social Cars has released its list on how COVID tests are prioritised, with teaching staff coming in at number five.
Health Secretary Matt Hancock said that priority went "first to support acute clinical care; Second, to support and protect people in care homes; Third, NHS staff, including GPs and pharmacists; Fourth, targeted testing for outbreak management and surveillance studies; and Fifth, testing for teaching staff with symptoms, so we can keep schools and classes open."
School pupils however are absent from the list.
The list comes as new COVID-19 mitigation measures are expected to come into effect, as the latest ONS figures indicate 6,000 new infections a day, almost double the previous week.
The Welsh Government has agreed to continue a licensing deal which will give all learners at Welsh state schools free access to Microsoft 365 at school and at home.
Schools will play a greater role in ensuring every pupil has a clear post-16 destination, with a new approach to a guaranteed college or FE provider place available as a safety net being tested.
New data from Ofqual shows that schools and colleges across England are making progress in cyber security training, but are struggling to recover quickly from attacks when they occur.
