Furness Academy to be converted into hospital for recovering patients

Furness Academy in Cumbria will be converted into a makeshift hospital to provide care to recovering patients who have been in hospital.

The 'hospital' is being set with the help of the military and local public bodies and is one of five sites in the county that will provide 500 beds between them.

headteacher Simon Laheney, said: “We have said all along, that we will endeavour to do whatever it takes to work with our support services to ensure that we combat this crisis together. So when the request came through for help, it was an easy decision to make,” he said in a letter to parents.

“If we can help save the lives of people in our community, our parents and grandparents, our sons and daughters, our aunties and uncles, our friends and colleagues, by providing crucial support for our NHS – of course we will!”
