Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has announced a national campaign day against the government’s policy on grammar schools, due to take place on Saturday (1 October).
In his victory speech after being re-elected party leader, Corbyn said: "I am calling on Labour Party members all over the country to join us in a national campaign for inclusive education next Saturday," he said. "The Tories' plans for grammar-school segregation of our children expose their divisive and damaging agenda for our country."
He said: “This time next week we’re all going to hit the streets, united as a party.”
A new survey by the British Council has revealed that more than two thirds (67%) of primary school age children say they would like to spend more time at school learning a language.
