Edinburgh schools may remain shut until August
A few of the 17 Edinburgh schools shut down over serious safety concerns may remain closed to students until August, according to reports from BBC Scotland.
All 17 of the schools were built and managed under the same £130 million public-private partnership (PPP) programme run by the Edinburgh Schools Partnership.
Nearly 9,000 students were unable to return to classes after the Easter break due to concerns over structural problems. This included 10 primary schools, five secondary schools and two additional support schools.
All children are now back in the classroom, but many have had to be housed in alternative accommodation.
Edinburgh Schools Partnership missed last Friday’s deadline to provide survey results from the schools and BBC Scotland is reporting that a clear timescale for repairs has not yet been agreed between City of Edinburgh Council and Edinburgh Schools Partnership.
It is expected that an official investigation will be launched into the matter, but this will have to wait until after the Scottish election.
