Sir Theodore Agnew, the founder of the Inspiration Trust, has been appointed as the new minister for academies, taking over from Lord Nash.
The Inspiration Trust sponsors a group of academies in East Anglia and has an ethos that “no child is left behind”. Following his appointment in government, Sir Theodore will step down as chairman of the trust.
Education secretary Justine Greening says Agnew’s experience makes him ideally placed to help create a school system “that gives every child the chance to fulfil their potential, regardless of their background”.
Agnew said: “It’s a real privilege to be taking on this role at the Department for Education, and I look forward to working with the great leaders and teachers across the profession and getting on with this incredibly important job.”
Education Support, the charity dedicated to the mental health and wellbeing of teachers and education staff, has released its ninth Teacher Wellbeing Index.
Nearly two thirds of Initial Teacher Training providers believe that teachers are not currently prepared to meet the government’s ambition to raise the complexity threshold for SEND pupils entering mainstream schools.
England’s councils are warning of a "ticking time bomb" in the special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) system, with new data showing deficits that could bankrupt local authorities within three years.
The regulations have been set following a second consultation and detailed collaborative working with organisations and people across deaf and hearing communities.
