LKMco and Pearson unveil teacher recruitment ad

Education think tank LKMco and examination board Pearson have partnered up to produce a short film aimed at stemming the teacher recruitment crisis.
The video shows advise from teachers and leaders around England and includes examples of head teachers working hard to stop the trend of teachers leaving due to poor leadership and management.
The recruitment film comes after the National Audit Office (NAO) published its Teacher Recruitment Report, which highlighted key issues with the government’s recruitment practices.
The report claimed the teacher shortage was mostly due to existing teachers leaving the profession.
Loic Menzies, LKMco director, said: “Since we published our ‘Why Teach?’ report there has been quite a lot of discussion about recruitment and retention, not least from the NAO last week, but also from the NAHT and NFER.
“It has become evident that people are very worried about this. What we do know is that it is sometimes hard for headteachers and senior leaders to know what they can do about recruitment and some of the issues and we think the video makes it really accessible, and gives people ideas for action, while they wait for the government to wake up to what is going on.”
Menzies also claimed that the video aimed to show that teachers can still retain their passion for teaching and to help schools and policymakers to have the best possible chance of ‘navigating a tough recruitment environment’.
