North-South divide in GCSE results not getting narrower
Education data firm SchoolDash mapped the provisional GCSE results for 2015, and found that 4.7 per cent more pupils in the South achieve five GCSEs, including English and Maths, compared to their northern contemporaries.
To put the results in context, there was a 4.8 per cent disparity for final results in 2014, compared to 2.8 per cent per cent in 2013 and 1.8 per cent in 2012. Although the results for 2015 show an improvement of 0.1 per cent there is still a significantly larger gap compared to previous years.
The results show that GCSE results are not consistent with primary school tests, as the attainment gap between the north and south for primary results is just 1.1 per cent.
