The bursary for new maths teachers is set to increase by £10,000, however, to encourage them to teach for longer the upfront amount will decrease.
The new bursaries were unveiled by education secretary Justine Greening and will see some maths graduates receive up to £35,000 on top of their salaries in exchange for joining and remaining in the profession.
The new proposals will see maths graduates get an upfront payment of £20,000 when they become secondary school teachers.
For those that stay on will receive two more payments of £5,000 in the third and fifth year of their teaching careers.
