The nation's vote on its favourite school meal over the last 25 years is out, following an online poll from LACA for National School Meals Week (NSMW).
The team behind NSMW created a shortlist of 10 meals and put the list to the vote. The ten choices were whittled down to the top five, which went out to the polls to decide the top spot. LACA heard from caterers, parents and children over the last six months.
The votes have now been counted, revealing that the public's favourite school meal is Curry and Rice.
Choices on the list included popular meals such as Pasta based dishes, Roast Dinners, Fish and Chips and Homemade Pies, with favourite handheld and street food such as Pizzas and Wraps also proving popular.
With regard to the Nations Favourite School dessert, In the running from the top 5 were Fruit Crumble, Jam & Coconut Sponge, Cheesecake and Pineapple Upside Down Cake, but the overwhelming favourite was Chocolate Sponge with Custard.
National School Meals Week takes place 12-16 November. LACA and NSMW will be encouraging school caterers to serve the Nation’s Favourite as part of their NSMW celebrations.
