Peter Lauener named shadow CEO of the Institute for Apprenticeships

The Department for Education (DfE) has named Peter Lauener as the shadow CEO of the Institute for Apprenticeships (IFA).
Lauener will fulfil the new role alongside his responsibilities as chief executive of the of the Skills Funding Agency and Education Funding Agency, dedicating two days a week to the IFA.
The IFA is a new independent body led by employers that aims to ensure the quality of apprenticeships in England and Lauener will supported by Michael Keoghan, currently director of further education at the DfE, who is being appointed as the deputy CEO.
Jonathan Slater, DfE permanent secretary, said: “I am delighted to announce that Peter Lauener has been appointed as shadow chief executive for the newly formed Institute for Apprenticeships. He will be able to apply his deep knowledge of skills and apprenticeships, as well as his senior experience as chief executive, to great effect in establishing the Institute for Apprenticeships in the run up to its go live date in April next year.
Antony Jenkins, Shadow Chair of the IFA, said: “I am very pleased with the appointment of Peter, who I know will apply his excellent skills and expertise to ensure that the Institute is up and running from April.”
