The government is to set to begin collecting data on how many children from immigrant families are being taught in England’s schools at the start of the next school year.
A change in census recored will expand the information that the Department for Education collects, and will include nationality and country of birth alongside the current requirement of marking a individual’s ethnicity.
It is believed that the new information will not be used as part of an investigation into the ‘impact of mass migration’ on schools. The census takes place three times a year.
Ofsted has shared findings from pilot inspections carried out in 115 schools this autumn, ahead of the full rollout of its renewed inspection framework.
