Salford schools to issue drug warning
Salford schools are set to issue new drug warnings to pupils, following the hospitalisation of three 12 year-old girls who took ecstasy.
The girls are believed to have taken pills shaped like ‘teddy bears’ after they were mixed with a bottle of soft drink.
Councillor Lisa Stone, executive lead member for children’s and young people’s services at Salford Council, told Manchester Evening News that talks will now take place at schools across the area to reinforce the dangers of drugs.
Stone said: “Salford City Council is shocked and saddened to learn of this situation and we are receiving regular updates on the girls’ progress.
"The safeguarding of our children is critical to us. We take matters such as this very seriously and our thoughts are with the girls and their families during this difficult time.
“We would also like to continue to remind people of the danger of taking drugs and will be following up with young people in Salford to offer support over the coming days.”
A man aged 22, and a woman, 21, have reportedly been arrested in relation to the incident and have been bailed until 15 July.
