Sir Michael Wilshaw will work as an advisor to GEMS Education company to help set up a network of low-cost private schools in India, South East Asia and Africa.
The GEMS group was founded by education entrepreneur Sunny Varkey, who also funded the annual Global Teaching Prize.
Sir Wilshaw was born in northern India in Shimla, at the foothills of the Himalayas, before moving with his family to London at the age of two. He said: "I have the opportunity to go back to my roots.”
He continued: "Low-cost schooling is a very popular and growing choice for millions of Indian families.”
Wilshaw will be working with Tony Little, former head of Eton College, who is GEM group's chief education officer.
A new survey by the British Council has revealed that more than two thirds (67%) of primary school age children say they would like to spend more time at school learning a language.
Forty-four per cent of education professionals are unfamiliar with the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025, otherwise known as Martyn’s Law, according to new research.
