Over 100 trusts have missed EFA’s accounts deadline

According to the Education Funding Agency (EFA), 137 academy trusts have missed the deadline for sending off their financial accounts.

Trusts have to submit audited accounts to the EFA by the end of December each year under rules in the Academies Handbook.

However, a Freedom of Information (FoI) request by the Local Schools Network has revealed that 137 trusts missed the 31 December deadline for submitting audited accounts for the year ending 31 August 2016.

The Department for Education (DfE) has said that trusts that had missed the deadline have “subsequently submitted and continue to submit” their accounts.

Mary Bousted, the general secretary of the Association of Teachers and Lecturers, said the late filing of accounts was “another demonstration that academies are not being properly held to account for the use of public money”.
