EB News: 05/01/2018 - 12:28
Change4Life will be launching a suite of new resources for primary schools in order to inform pupils and families about healthier snacking choices.
Available from Monday, 8 January, the resources will include a new School Council Toolkit to help pupils champion healthier snacking and share knowledge. Also included is The Healthier Snacking Show, a curriculum-linked game show presentation that can be delivered in either a classroom setting or performed as a whole-school assembly.
To help schools send the message home, 3.6 million Family Snack Challenge leaflets are being distributed to more than 16,500 primary schools via the School Fruit and Veg Scheme.
The campaign is supported by research that underlines the importance of educating young people to identify healthier snacks, interpret food labels and understand the effect of high sugar content.
New data from the Youth Sport Trust’s annual Girls Active Survey has found that girls with multiple characteristics of inequality are being left behind in PE and school sport.
Nearly three-quarters of teachers (72%) say the current SEND system fails children, yet more than half (56%) expect anticipated reforms to negatively impact SEND pupils with complex needs.
Over a quarter of all schools and colleges across England are taking part in the free National Education Nature Park programme, which sees young people create nature-rich spaces on school sites.
