Council considers banning parking outside schools

North Somerset Council has drawn up plans that would stop vehicles from stopping, waiting or parking on roads outside schools between 8am and 4pm Monday to Friday.

It would cover 11 schools across North Somerset that have problems with congestion outside.

Although the schools do have keep clear markings on the road outside, these are only advisory and are regularly ignored by motorists.

The new order would make the keep clear markings legally enforceable meaning those caught parking or stopping on them could be penalised.

A council spokesman: "At these locations there has been continued issues with people parking on the current keep clear markings

"This is causing safety issues, particularly for children walking to and from school due to reduced visibility and additional congestion."
