MP for Salford and Eccles Rebecca Long-Bailey has been appointed as the new shadow education secretary under new Labour leader Kier Starmer.

Rebecca Long-Bailey takes over Angela Rayner, who is now deputy leader and chair of the party.

Long Bailey was a candidate to become the next Labour leader. She joined parliament in 2015.
