DfE commits to measuring wellbeing of education staff

The government has agreed to implement all seven recommendations put forward by an Expert Advisory Group on school staff wellbeing in a letter sent by Schools Minister Nick Gibb.

It includes the creation of a wellbeing charter that will include a set of wellbeing commitments for schools, colleges and employers to sign up to voluntarily.

The letter says "It would not be an accredited “Kitemark” or an accountability tool, but would act as a public pledge from employers and government."

The charter will also include commitments from the Department for Education to integrate wellbeing into its schools workload policy test, and embed staff wellbeing into any relevant training, standards and guidance.

It also agrees to build staff wellbeing and mental health into its wider communications strategy for recruitment and retention, linking to existing campaigns in the third sector; as well as measuring the wellbeing of staff at regular intervals and publishing findings.
