Digital programme rewarding children’s healthy behaviour launched nationally

The Actives Challenge - a digital platform that engages children in health and wellbeing - is being made available to primary schools all around the UK for the 2018/19 academic year, following a successful pilot programme.

The Actives Challenge is a app-based programme that rewards children for displaying a range of healthy behaviours with digital ‘Zaps’ - the 2018 version of a gold star. Zap points are awarded to children around four key pillars, designed to encourage a holistic approach to their health and wellbeing: Physical Activity, Healthy Eating & Drinking, Self Confidence, Mental Toughness & Resilience.

The Actives Challenge has been designed to enable parents, teachers and children to easily set weekly targets for earning Zap points and to track their individual progress, compare within school classes or even nationally.

The Actives Challenge has proven to be a big hit with the four schools that took part in the recent pilot. 600 parents and over 1,000 children took part, with more than 10,000 Zaps being awarded.

Matthew Whittle, PE Teacher Specialist, said “The Actives Challenge is a great way for children to enjoy and engage with health and wellbeing. It doesn’t bombard them with the usual slogans and instead allows them to engage in a way that speaks to them.”

The Actives Challenge can be purchased using a small part of the PE & School Sport Premium budget. It launches nationally in September 2018 and schools can sign up to take part up until July 31st by visiting www.theactiveschallenge.co.uk
