What is DreamBox Reading Plus?
Reading Plus is an adaptive online reading development programme designed to enhance fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension skills.
Reading Plus serves the needs of a wide range of students. Guided by the most prominent reading and pedagogical research from the last 30 years, Reading Plus helps Key Stage 2 - Key Stage 4 students become better readers with a readability range from Year 2 to beyond GCSE.
Students eligible for Pupil Premium, EAL, and SEND students benefit significantly from the programme’s personalised scaffolding, adaptive technology, and varied informative and cultural texts.
Personalised reading journey
Each child has different needs, and it can be challenging to implement a reading intervention strategy that will benefit the whole class. With Reading Plus, each student is placed on a personalised learning path based on their individual strengths and skills gaps.
When starting the programme, students complete the InSight Assessment, which measures their reading speed, reading motivation, comprehension, and vocabulary level. Based on these results, Reading Plus will adapt its content to maximise every student's progress.
Creating proficient readers
Reading fluency is an essential skill for students to become proficient readers, and Reading Plus is the only literacy tool that addresses the hidden hurdle of silent reading fluency.
The patented Guided Window guides the reader's eyes left-to-right across a page of text at a bespoke speed, utilising a moving box. As each student's reading improves, the speed of the box will increase.
The Guided Window keeps students focused on reading the relevant material while developing fluency, comprehension, and independent reading at a year-appropriate rate.
Engaged students
Reading Plus's online library provides 1,300+ texts from eight high-interest categories with a range of informational, fiction, and non-fiction texts - ensuring engaging texts for every child's interests.

The wide range of complex and engaging texts ensures students are frequently made aware of connectedness within the curriculum and the relevance of reading across subject areas.
Students are exposed to unfamiliar texts from topics outside their cultural context, with more challenging vocabulary.
The programme also includes visual-perceptual skill-building and vocabulary development components encouraging students to build knowledge and mastery of general academic vocabulary.

An evidence-based programme
Reading Solutions UK partnered with Derby Research School and Spencer Academies Trust to determine the efficacy of Reading Plus. The results showed that on average:
Students eligible for Pupil Premium using Reading Plus made 97% more progress than those students without.
Boys who used Reading Plus made 45% more progress than boys without.
The study also found that EAL and SEND students using Reading Plus made significantly more progress than those students without Reading Plus.
