First Class Education’s Head of Education and Training, Peter Cobrin, gets really excited about their new programme for primary and secondary schools across London and the south-east.
Creating Impressive Performance Spaces
Portable staging from Stage Systems creates temporary performance platforms. Simple designs from kits, standard stock or bespoke solutions produce excellent results with flat, multi-height and tiering systems.
We are dedicated to staging and truly deliver on bringing spaces to life with creative designs in primary and secondary schools, colleges and universities, conference centres, hotels and businesses as well as churches, halls and community centres.
Alongside our staging solutions, we have a full range of educational furniture for early years and primary schools. Created by our parent company Havelock, it has been developed in consultation with schools and local authorities to create highly engineered modular furniture which is functional, flexible, and fun for its young users.
We supply staging to a wide range of sectors, although Education is our main market and over 40% of all primary and secondary schools in the UK have one of our products.
Stage Systems have been talking to School leaders and Teachers for over 50 years, the Company began in 1966 and our staging is a market leader in the field.
A successful solution was provided for Oakmeadow C of E Primary School in Shrewsbury, who approached us for help as they needed a staging product to enable them to get more use out of their existing dance and drama studio.
They were at the point where the studio space, although adequate in previous years, was unable to accommodate the increasingly large range of uses that were now required of it.
Thanks to the guidance and creative input from the Stage Systems team, the school is now benefiting from a highly versatile area which can be used for everything from assemblies and events to drama classes, and, most importantly, the highlight of the school year, the KS1 school nativity play.
The creative solution
With a requirement for flexibility and minimal storage, Q-build provided Oakmeadow with a creative, portable resource for the whole school that enabled amazing performances from a fashion show to a nativity play.
What we did
Dealing directly with the Head Teacher of the school, we were able to discuss exactly what the school needed. The dance and drama studio was repeatedly used for numerous activities including assemblies, events, plays and drama classes, but
needed a stage to better utilise the space.
We discussed how the stage needed to be used and crucially where it could be stored. We offered different portable stage solutions and through the discussions it was established that a carpeted stage would be preferred, plus the option for
different heights and layouts, so Q-build was ideal.
Portable staging would give the school the perfect variety of layouts, from catwalk to full performance stage. Plus, with its ease of build, variety of accessories, and carpeted surface giving an alternative finish, it would ideally meet their needs.
“We found the whole team really approachable. They would be our first port of call in the future should we choose to expand on our performance facilities.”
The school can now offer indoor performance facilities that are on a par with the outdoor sporting facilities at the school – delivering a high level of teaching and varied curriculum options.
“Having a stage that stores away, what a brilliant concept! We can put it together just when we need it and put it in a cupboard when we don’t.”
For Oakmeadow the versatility of Q-build was a key part of the decision. Since having the stage, a fashion show and the KS1 nativity play are just a couple of examples of the performances on their stage. With the creativity and continued development in drama capabilities, Q-build has given the school the ability to create amazing performances.
The school’s feedback
We received glowing feedback from Oakmeadow and their comments certainly proved that the Q-build portable staging option was the right choice for them.
“We are delighted with the Q-build stage - it is surprisingly easy to put together and very strong, which helps when being used by young children. With space at a premium within the school, being able to store it away in a small space has been a big benefit for us.”
With an age range of 3 to 11 to cater for, the fact that the staging can be adapted so easily for such a diverse range of purposes means that the school can be sure that all the children can benefit from the new facilities!
