Active IQ

Active IQ is a leading Ofqual-recognised awarding organisation for the physical activity sector. We design qualifications and high-quality resources that support clear career pathways, and lead the way in health, wellness and physical activity, championing industry standards at the highest level.

Over the years we have evolved to become an awarding organisation with a difference. Our diverse portfolio includes: qualifications and supporting resources; the Skills Hub; professional recognition; and professional career development. We also offer End-point Assessment services for a growing number of apprenticeship standards.

We have over 100 qualifications at a range of levels, from Entry Level through to Level 5, all of which are supported by eLearning, manuals and lecture packs. All our qualifications are accredited by Qfqual, Qualifications Wales and CCEA in Northern Ireland, and a wide range of programmes are recognised by CIMSPA and REPs.

At Active IQ, we place quality above quantity, and we value integrity above all else. We provide extensive resources, bespoke solutions and consultancy services, and work hard to develop meaningful partnerships and associations. We are outward-facing and share our time generously on professional advisory panels, including ukactive and CIMSPA. We also support many industry initiatives, including the ukactive Active Uprising Awards and the AoC WorldSkills UK Fitness Trainer competition.

Surrounding ourselves with the best in the business and building genuine partnerships is key to what we do. Our partnerships with industry experts include EMD UK, Cathy Brown, Ben Coomber and Max Whitlock. Giving others the benefit of our experience is important, and we are proud that our speakers address colleges as readily as they appear at ukactive events and Elevate. Our significant knowledge bank is also accessible through our unique Skills Hub, which includes webinars, podcasts, vlogs, and training events delivered by experts in education, medicine, business, marketing, funding and policy, graduate training and CPD.

We are particularly proud of our Level 2 Award in Mental Health Awareness, which addresses a problem at the root of our society as well as our industry. Mental health awareness is at an all-time high, but in order to improve things, people must know how to spot the signs and how to give support. Our Mental Health award combines two units – Mental Health Awareness and Mental Health First Aid – to help people recognise mental ill-health and understand the next steps. Shortlisted for the 2019 FAB Qualification of the Year award, it also formed the basis of our standing-room-only session at Elevate, delivered by our Chief Medical Adviser, Dr Dane Vishnubala.

There is a strong link between exercise and improved mental health. Personal trainers, class instructors and gym owners all engage with people personally, and when they are properly trained, they are perfectly poised to help. We are encouraged to see both trainers and learners becoming skilled in dealing with mental health issues.

In 2017, Active IQ became approved as an End-point Assessment Organisation (EPAO) – one of the first within the physical activity sector. With our breadth of expertise and experience, we ensure the design and content of the products and services we offer to employers, providers and apprentices is of the highest quality. Our dedicated End-point Assessment (EPA) department ensures that resources, reliability and accountability for our EPA contracts all meet the required standards.

Following our early approval by the Register of End-point Assessment Organisations, we currently offer eleven apprenticeship standards, and are aiming to double that provision by the end of 2020.

Since we launched our EPA service in April 2018, demand has grown steadily, and we pride ourselves on delivering bespoke and focused support to employers, apprentices and training providers, placing emphasis on the provision of assessment toolkits to guide all parties. Our success rate is very high, due in no small part to these materials and our attention to detail. We ensure that everyone’s expectations are managed, and apprentices are always ready for their EPA.

We are pleased to be able to offer EPAs for new apprenticeship standards, and as a registered End Point Assessment Organisation (EPAO), the following standards are approved for delivery:

  • Business Administrator
  • Community Activator Coach
  • Customer Service Practitioner
  • Early Years Educator
  • Facilities Management Supervisor
  • Leisure Duty Manager
  • Leisure Team Member
  • Passenger Transport Service Operations (Onboard or Station) Team Member
  • Personal Trainer
  • Teaching Assistant
  • Team Leader/Supervisor

New apprenticeship standards describe the skills, knowledge and behaviours that an apprentice needs in order to be fully competent in an occupation, while the accompanying assessment plan sets out how the apprentice should be assessed to demonstrate that they have met these standards at the end of their apprenticeship journey.

Apprenticeship standards contain on-programme and off the job training, plus a final EPA. This EPA must be conducted by an independent organisation, such as Active IQ, that is recognised on the Register of End Point Assessment Organisations (the RoEPAO).

As you would expect from a leading awarding organisation, we have developed high quality, rigorous assessments for every level, plus wraparound supporting resources for the entire apprenticeship journey. This includes resources to support on-programme training and assessment for both the apprentice themselves and the training provider/employer, ensuring a rewarding experience and the best possible preparation for a successful EPA outcome.
