The links between physical exercise, increased concentration, and improved learning have been well documented, scientists have consistently proven that exercise stimulates the brain and prepares it for learning. However, physical activity is often overlooked within academic subjects, where traditional approaches are most commonly used. 5-a-day Fitness believes that five-minute bursts of energy and exercise throughout the school day, that complement the existing curriculum, will help improve your pupils’ academic performance and concentration levels.

“Children and young people should engage in moderate-to-vigorous intensity physical activity for an average of at least 60 minutes per day across the week”, - UK Chief Medical Officers' Physical Activity Guidelines, Gov.UK, 2019
This overarching ambition of 60 minutes per day is also shared within the Department for Education’s School Sport and Activity Action Plan. Furthermore,
“Every primary school child should get at least 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity a day. At least 30 minutes should be delivered in school every day… with the remaining 30 minutes supported by parents and carers outside of school time.” - Childhood Obesity: A Plan for Action. Gov.UK, 2017
If every class used 5-a-day Fitness just once a day, perhaps first thing in the morning, that’s 25 minutes extra physical activity a week! Twice a day would be an extra 50 minutes a week, which would go along way to help increase physical activity levels throughout your whole school, without increasing teacher workload or causing disruption to the curriculum.

The Time-2-Chill channel is a collection of 2-minute routines concentrating on relaxation, imagination, co-ordination and mindfulness. Living in a society where so much is asked of children from a young age, it’s no surprise to anyone in education that there is an increased occurrence of anxiety in young people, and a decrease in children’s concentration. The Time-2-Chill channel’s aim is to provide an opportunity for relaxation during the hustle and bustle of the school day. Time-2-Chill provides teachers with an easy to access resource, which will help the pupils to reconnect with the lesson and classroom environment, and support improved behaviour for learning.
All of the resources are made in-house, with the music and choreography being written, created and licensed with education and school appropriateness in mind. Each activity routine enhances kinaesthetic learning, and utilises both audio and visual instructions and demonstrations. Resources are differentiated by complexity and speed, which is indicated by an easy to understand star rating system, additionally the language learning resources each have 3 levels of difficulty, making 5-a-day Fitness an amazing cross-curricular physical education and modern foreign language learning tool for Key Stage 1 and 2 (K-6).

“My first experience with 5-a-day Fitness was as a Partnership Development Manager for Tower Hamlets School Sport Partnership, where the vast majority of primary schools used the product to engage and encourage children to be more active. It was a massive success in getting thousands of children in the borough exercising everyday. I now work in a primary school and all of the classes take part in 5-a-day Fitness every single day. The children thoroughly enjoy the routines and are incredibly enthusiastic about all the activities you can find on 5-a-day TV. We have had regular 5-a-day assemblies where whole year groups have come together and chosen their favourite routines to perform. Our children absolutely love 5-a-day Fitness, it is a major part of their daily routine, and has contributed in making our children fitter, happier, and more focused. I can’t recommend it enough!” - Chloe Jackson, Primary PE Specialist.
