Corbyn pledges to give schools £160m arts boost

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has said he will introduce an ‘arts pupil premium’ to raise pupils involvement in art, music and drama.

He said at his party’s conference, that if Labour won a general election, it would introduce a £160m cash boost to help pupils learn to play instruments, learn drama and dance and have regular access to theatres, galleries or museums.

He said: “All school pupils should have the chance to learn an instrument, take part in drama and dance, and have regular access to a theatre, gallery or museum in their local area.”

“That’s why we will introduce an arts pupil premium to every primary school in England and Wales and consult on the design and national roll-out to extend this pupil premium to all secondary schools."
