First new free school announced by LocatED

LocatED, a private company that was established by the Department for Education last year to produce new sites for free schools, has announced its first project.

GEMS Kingston primary academy in south London is to be designed by Architecture Initiative and will be run by the GEMS Learning Trust.

The company was given a £2 billion budget to help with the government’s commitment to new school places by securing sites for an additional 110 free schools.

The project will be a two-form entry primary which will have 420 pupil places and 11 residential units.
