Eleven more research schools to benefit from £2.2 million share

Eleven extra schools across England will split more than £2 million to become research hubs, bringing the total to 22.

The education secretary, Justine Greening, has announced that 11 new schools will join the previously selected 11 to receive £200,000 in order to transform them into research hubs.

According to Greening, these schools will become “focal points of evidence-based practice” in their regions over the next three years.

The hubs will be based at schools in the government’s “opportunity areas”, regions identified as having low levels of social mobility which are due to receive investment in school improvement, teacher support and other schemes in the coming years.

This brings the total of research schools up to 22, five were chosen last October, and a further six were allocated funding in April this year.

The schools will be expected to build networks between large numbers of schools and develop a programme of support, including events to encourage more teachers to use research evidence to improve what they do in the classroom.
